Dans l’herbe
Mes tableaux d’herbe sont toujours à personnage(s). Je commence à peindre celui-ci en atelier. La toile est ensuite mise de côté jusqu’aux vacances d’été à la campagne où le décor est exécuté en plein air dans le secret d’un jardin clos. Ce décor est toujours soigneusement composé, à partir d’éléments prélevés çà et là : un bout de mur fleuri de bignones et de volubilis, du lierre rampant se mêlant à quelques branches de forsythia posées sur de la mousse, une ou deux larges feuilles de rose trémière, du pissenlit ou du liseron pour leurs éclats jaunes ou roses. Un petit coin de paradis terrestre. Un paysage de myope, aussi émouvant qu’un grand. J’y passe toutes mes matinées, dimanche compris pendant un mois, sans cesser de m’émerveiller.
In the grass
My grass paintings always include a person or persons. I start by painting this part in my studio. The canvas is then put aside until summer vacation in the country, when the scenery is done in the open air, in the "secret" of an enclosed garden. The scenery is always painstakingly composed from elements taken from here and there: the end of a wall covered with bignones and morning glories, rampant ivy intertwined with branches of forsythia lying on some moss, one or two large leaves of pink trémière, dandelions or bindweeds for their bursts of yellow and pink. A little bit of earthly paradise. A landscape from up close, just as moving as a big one. I spend all of my mornings there for a month, Sundays included, without ceasing to marvel.
